UNDERSTANDING THE DISEASE STATE. Advanced pathophysiology will analyze and differentiate the relationship between normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology. It will also explore biochemical and microbiologic concepts of disease pathogenesis. Each disease system will be discovered using cause (etiology), epidemiological characteristics, clinical presentation, developmental considerations, risk factors, and pathogenesis. We will evaluate the interdependence of all systems in health and disease using in depth theoretical and applied clinical knowledge of principles of stress, mutated genetics, and environmental impact in common disease development. Clinical understanding of disease pathogenesis will include mastery of disease presentation, diagnostic biochemical findings, and pathophysiological understanding of those common disease processes for the nurse practitioner. The books and resources used in developing these learning modules are McCance and Huether Advanced Pathophysiology: The biologic basis for disease in Adults and Children, baby Robbins, and Tkac's Advanced Physiology and Pathophysiology for Advanced Practice Nurse, resources include Epocrates* online resource, Up to date* online resource, Medscape/emedicine.com online resource, and Family Practice Notebook.com online resource
In this section, you will find all FREE content related to advanced pathophysiology. This page includes the advanced pathophysiology traditional lectures (all), a few guided, and a few vignette notes. These notes are designed by me, Professor Jaimalee for the classes I taught at university. They will cover most courses you will find for the 3 core courses (advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology and physical assessment) needed for an advanced nursing degree. If you like the guided and vignette notes, please hop over to the SHOP page and purchase the advanced content, either by a la cart or by subscription. I hope you enjoy and use the notes as they are designed, so they can elevate your understanding of advanced pathophysiology. All notes are in PDF format for digital download.
Here are FREE downloadable traditional notes
In this section, you will find our pathovignettes. These notes are case-based learning where you play the diagnostician, going on a medical journey and playing detective to diagnose the case. If you want, grab a one- on one with the professor as these are a fun way to engage and learn.
This video covers the human reproductive system, anatomy and physiology review. This is based on genetically determined XX or XY chromosomes at birth.
This video covers the hematology system with a specific focus on white blood cells.
CNS part 2. This video covers the central nervous system, part 2. Due to the amount of the content the CNS is divided, this part covers disease states within the CNS.
CNS part 1. This covers the A&P review of the CNS. View this video before CNS part 2.
This video covers the hematology system, with a specific focus on red blood cells and their associated diseases. THe disease states include all types of anemias, myelodysplastic disorders, and polycythemia.
This video covers the hematology system, with a specific focus on clotting and hemostasis. The video also covers the common disease states such as vW factor, thrombocytosis, thrombocytopenia.
This video covers cellular biology and its physiology, structure and function.
This video covers the hematology system with a specific focus on white blood cells and an introduction to immunity.
This video covers the cellular adaptation, injury and death. This is a review of cellular concepts related to how the cell adapts, changes, or dies related to increased stressors.
This video covers principles of genetics. This video is intended to re-introduce A&P concepts with the introduction of advanced concepts needed to understand genetic diseases for advanced practice nursing.
This video covers principles of neoplasia. This video will build on the concepts learned in nursing school, and will introduce advanced concepts needed to understand the neoplastic process of benign and malignant diseases.
This video covers the hematology system, with a specific focus on clotting and hemostasis. The video also covers the common disease states such as vW factor, thrombocytosis, thrombocytopenia.
